Kingstown Crossing

Kingstown Crossings is an affordable and “green” housing development that includes 104 apartments for both transitional supportive housing and Section 8 rental units. Additional buildings include a childcare/community building, leasing office, and maintenance building. With a combined construction budget of $21M, all phases except the childcare center are now complete.

Designed for large families, the 4 acre site is organized along a central path that  promotes fitness and has ample play space. The path connects green space, playgrounds, and plazas with a walking and bicycle path. The scale and details fit the residential neighborhood give the complex a fresh new identity.

For ease of construction, the design is based on a 3-story, 3 bedroom module that is adapted to create 1-, 2-, and 4- bedroom options which are in turn organized in different building configurations to create a village effect.

The project dramatically exceeds Energy Star Homes criteria, and actual energy consumption is less than design benchmarks. Awarded LEED-H Gold Certification, it is the first and only multi-family project in Rhode Island to earn this credential. It did so with careful construction but conventional materials such as fiberglass batt insulation.
