We are happy to report another year of great turnout at KITE’s Design Week presentation! It was part of the annual series of lectures and events that highlight the robust Rhode Island design community, and is organized by DESIGNxRI.
Albert, Phil and Christine shared an in-depth look at what went into creating a new unified home for Brown University’s History Department from two existing buildings. The work included not only siting and moving of the historic [and very large!] Sharpe House, but creating significant additions and connecting it to next door Peter Green House with a two-level bridge. The design approach balanced opportunities to create a new campus space and improve connections with preservation of selective historic elements exteriors. Highly technical and complex, and with its fair share of design challenges, the KITE team discussed their approach to problem solving and the effective working collaboration with Shawmut Design and Construction. It is these sweet moments that make an architect smile!
