Unitil Fitchburg DOC

KITE Architects is proud to be the architects for a new delivery and operations center for Unitil in Fitchburg, MA. As a design-build project led by Nadeau Corp., the 45,000 sf new facility is conceived as a functionally elegant structure that will help the gas and electric energy company provide important service to its customers.

KITE has worked with the palette of pre-engineered building components including insulated architectural panels to keep the overall construction costs efficient. By using color and careful attention to proportion and detail, the building is an example of how even utilitarian structures can be well designed and affordable.

The project employs many green sustainable design features, including large amounts of daylight through diffusing skylights, stormwater landscape swales, and importantly, the Massachusetts “stretch code” which requires an overall level of energy efficiency higher than even stringent baseline energy codes.
