Keynote Address: Human Centered Smart Cities
Research in cognitive neuroscience and environmental psychology has unlocked a powerful framework for human-centered design of the built environment. As architecture critic, historian, author, and Director of Human-Centered Design for Smart Cities consulting as a member of Turf Advisory, Sarah Williams Goldhagen has built a compelling case for how understanding this science – and in particular the concept of embodied cognition – can dramatically affect people’s lives for the better as we design cities of the future. In this session she will discuss the immense potential of this research, followed by a discussion of its implications for growing cities like Providence, moderated by Providence City Plan Commission Chair and architect Christine Malecki West, AIA.
